Anne Herbert is said to have coined the phrase in 1982 or 1983 on a placemat at Sausalito restaurant. She wrote “Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty” and has been inspiring others ever since.
Random Acts of Kindess or (RAKS) are totally unexpected and refreshing in our ‘every man for himself’ culture. If you are lucky enough to experience this humanity high it is quite euphoric. The element of surprise is the best part of a well-played RAK… and you gotta do it right!
Today my friend Freda AKA That Freda Girl surprised me with a nice care package on my front door step. At around 6:30pm I received a text telling me to check my front porch…now Freda is a classy gal and knows better than to just drop by unexpectantly… so I immediately thought to myself….this is strange…
I opened my front door and as I looked down I saw it; a glowing glittery fuchsia gift bag propped up against our white wooden railing. I had been RAKed! Such a nice random act of kindness to kick off what is set to be a very busy week. Thank you Freda!
